This past year

So 2008 has come and gone and I am not sad to see it go. Overall it was a pretty good year but I am looking forward to what 2009 will bring. First lets recap what has happened this past year. I decided to start a blog that I have not done well with but will try harder this year to keep it updated. In April we decided to move from Connecticut to Long Island, which has proven to be a little disappointing. We did a lot of traveling this year that included DC in March, Colorado in June for an Anniversary party for my in-laws, New York in July for our Anniversary where we went to the Natural History Museum and a Yankees game, Ohio in August for a wedding and where I also got to spend some time with an old high school friend, Delaware and Philly in September to see my sister and her in-laws, Maine in October for my birthday, Colorado in November and again two more times in December.

To recap a little more about our trip in November we went home for Thanksgiving and our 2nd nieces 1 year birthday. While we were home we also got to spend time with some of Hubby's friends from high school who we don't get to see as often as we like. For December we went home for a wedding of one of my best friends from high school and also got to spend time with my best friends Heather and Edwin who were there from Germany. And then a week later we flew out again for Christmas. We were supposed to stay in a cabin with my hubby's family but on Christmas Eve my sister-in-law and her husband had to take my niece to the emergency room where they stayed till the next day. So we decided to cut the trip short so we could all be together and had what I think was one of the best Christmas's. We also got see some of our close friends while we were home and had a great time seeing them all. We just wish we could see all of them more often. Well that about raps up 2008 in a nut shell.

I can only hope that 2009 will bring us as much fun and joy as 2008 has and so far we are off to a good start. We have many travel plans that include; Greece, hopefully Germany, Hawaii and hopefully many more fun places. We will also be adding a niece or nephew to our family this year as my sister-in-law and her husband are going to have their third baby later this year!

I hope everyone had a great 2008 and I wish everyone the best for 2009.

Playing catch up!

Wow, I can't believe that it has been that long since I last posted. So I now have a whole month to catch everyone up on. So to begin with the month of October was very fun, the first weekend we drove up the North Fork and hit some wineries and found some fabulous wine. The next weekend we went up to Maine for mini vacay and loved it. Maine never seems to disappoint. We went shopping and just hung around at the resort we stayed at. And we were lucky enough that our favorite road side lobster shack was still open and we got to enjoy the BEST lobster rolls ever! And believe me out here there are many lobster rolls to try. Next came my birthday which was just ok, being so far away from family and friends made me want to skip my birthday this year but we did have a nice dinner at a fondue place. The rest of the month just flew by to quickly and now we are in November.

November will again be a busy month for us. We are going tonight to a new Bobby Flay restaurant here on Long Island which we are looking forward to. Tomorrow we are going to catch a matinee showing of Avenue Q on Broadway which I am really excited for. I think that the idea of a play done with puppets is hilarious! And in a little over a week will be heading back to Colorado for Thanksgiving! We are both really looking forward to this, it has been way too long since we have been home.

In book news I finished Brisinger which I still found boring after finishing it and have now moved on to a biography on Georgiana The Duchess of Devonshire. I am loving this book, the author really knows how to captivate the reader and fall in love with the characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical biographies.

Well that's all for now, in case I am not back on I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

feeling a little blue

So I am feeling a little blue today because things here are not going out as I had hoped. Its always hard to not get your hopes up about things because you know that they may not work out but when it doesn't work out you are still left feeling a little betrayed and blue. So that is where I am at this week. But I try not to dwell on the negative because it is now October and I have many things to look forward to.

As I have said before fall is my favorite time of year and October is my favorite month. It has all of my favorite things about fall; the cool crisp air, the leaves changing, apples and pumpkins and my birthday. So to make this month even better I think hubby and I are going up to Maine in a few weekends and for a New England fall you can't get better then Maine. Plus the L.L. Bean flagship store is located there, it is so big that they have 7 buildings; each one for different types of merchandise. Also I think that this weekend we are going to drive up the North fork and visit some wineries. I love me some wine!

In book news I am in the process of reading Brisingr, which is the third book in the Inheritance series and I am having a hard time with it. The first two books I thought were great but this one seems so juvenile compared to the others. Maybe I just didn't notice it before in the other ones but this book seems a little lame to me.

I guess that's all for now. I hope everyone is enjoying their fall!

Rainy Days Never Bring Me Down

Everyone knows the Song by The Carpenters, Rainy Days and Mondays but I think that I am one of the few people who they don't bring down. I love rainy days, sometimes I think there is nothing better then sitting inside watching your favorite movie or reading a good book while the rain is pouring down outside. Today is one of those days. I think after this I am going to go and out in one of my favorite movies make a cup of hot tea and enjoy the rain.

I hope everyone is enjoying there day and whatever weather they may be having!

Labor Day Wrap Up

So Labor Day weekend was a lot of fun for us. We went down to Delaware to hang out with my sister and her in-laws. On Sunday we spent the afternoon in Philadelphia and saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. We also walked around the Italian market there but was disappointed because most stores closed at 1 and we got there at 1:30, but it was still fun to walk around. On Monday we went to Longwood Gardens which is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. My brother-in-law's younger brother works there so we had a tour guide which was a lot of fun. After that we went back to his house (he lives on the garden's property) for dinner. Then we headed back home which takes about 3 1/2 hours and got home about midnight.

Not a lot is going on here just trying to stay positive, things are not exactly working out the way I had hoped. I have to remind myself that everything will work out in time and that things happen for reasons we may never know. And in the mean time I can focus on the good things like saying goodbye to Summer and Hello! to Fall. I also finished my biography on Elizabeth last week before the end of August so that made me happy. And I just finished the Age Of Innocence which I really enjoyed and I am now going to start a novel by George Elliott, I have never read any of her work so I am looking forward to trying here out.

Weekend Fun!

So last week I got some good news, my sister and her husband are coming to this side of the world for a week. My bro-in-law's family is from Delaware and they decided to come out here last minute so Hubby and I are spending the weekend with them. I am soooo excited because I haven't seen my sister in a while and I miss hanging out with her.

Hope everyone has a safe Holiday weekend!

Ready for Summer to be gone

So to catch up over the last few weekends; the first weekend in august we drove out to the Hamptons and went out to Montauk. It was a nice and slow drive. It took us almost 3 hours because of all the traffic heading out there for the weekend. After about 2 hours into the drive we got hit with a pretty bad storm so we didn't get to see much out there but we still had fun. On Sunday we went for a hike in a state park by us but let me just say this, hiking out here is nothing like hiking in Colorado. For the first part we could still hear cars driving by and the second part was in high grass that left you itching. Plus we brought home a few friends called ticks. I hate ticks! And nothing happened last weekend.

I am really looking forward to this weekend because Hubby and I are going on a mini road trip. We have some good friends getting married on Saturday in Ohio and hubby is a groomsman and instead of flying out there we are going to drive. Since we have been out here on Long Island we hardly get to spend any time together because of his work schedule, so I am excited to be in a car with him for about 8 hours!

This will probably also be one of our last big things before summer is over so I hope it goes well. But I have to say that I am ready for it to be gone and for Fall to begin. I love Fall, it is my favorite season and I love everything about it. The weather with its brisk days, pulling out my favorite sweaters and scarves and apple and pumpkin picking. But I will still enjoy the last hot days of summer before they go.

I am still trying to finish my biography but i only have about 6 chapters left. So wish me luck!
